Day 67 – update

February 22nd, 2010 by ragingmoon

Well it’s been over a month, so it’s probably time for an update as to how I’ve been doing with my polyphasic sleep schedule.

I love my naps, they have been going great. On a normal day where I have done some physical activity I will typically fall asleep in about 2 minutes or less. If I haven’t it will be more like 5 minutes, and if I’ve had a stressful day it might hit 7 minutes before I fall asleep. By far and away It is around 2 minutes though.

Another cool thing to note is that for a month now I have been doing naps only with the timer on my watch. it is loud enough to wake me up if I need to be woken up and I never have to worry about bringing an alarm clock or my ipod with me.

Something that messed me up as of late was a sickness that hit me for around a week. I was doing pretty bad and there were a couple of days where I had to hibernate. I also was taking extended core naps in an effort to kick this thing. Then by the time it was finally gone I had an incredibly stressful weekend at work that didn’t help anything in terms of recovery. So that weekend was just this past weekend. The past 3 evenings I slept right through my 11 o’clock nap and woke up somewhere in the middle of the time my core should be taking place. I’m taking steps to recover from this issue. I’m hoping that it won’t be detrimental and that it will be a quick recovery.

Activity – Nothing

Ok, so the Calorie count looks pretty good, but on the downside I did nothing short of walking to my car yesterday. It is understandable because it was a lazy day, where I did a bunch of studying, made a couple phone calls, and otherwise didn’t really leave my parents’ house. Today will be better in terms of activity. Also looking through this I could definitely have been a bit healthier in my eating. I’ll see how today works out.

Health Logging Intro

January 19th, 2010 by ragingmoon

Hey, I’m finally getting around to writing the intro to my health log. The reason I am doing this is because there has been a fairly diverse set of reports about how polyphasic sleep affects their energy levels, weight levels, and calorie needs. I found a calorie counter that tells me how many calories I will need roughly each day in order for me to maintain my own weight. The issue with this is that it is based off of a monophasic sleep pattern. I’m curious how my metabolism changes during a polyphasic sleep cycle, and how this in turn will affect how many calories I need to maintain my current weight.

Anyways my plan is to weigh myself roughly every 2 weeks, take measurements every month, and then daily report exercise and calorie consumption. We’ll see how things shape up.
